NC makes clean sweep in Kathmandu-1



KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) made a ‘clean sweep’ in the Kathmandu constituency-1 during the elections to the Member of the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly ((PA). The voting for the twin elections was held simultaneously on Sunday.

Party’s Deependra Shrestha won the election for the Province Assembly (1) under the constituency.

According to the Election Officer Office’s information officer Prem Prasad Poudel, Shrestha obtained 6,300 votes to get re-elected in the Bagmati Province Assembly from the same constituency.

He is also the Minister for Culture and Tourism in the Bagmati Province.

His nearest rival Nabin Shahi from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) secured 3,504 to be stopped at the second position followed by 2,297 by Ram Prasad Amgain of the CPN (UML).

Likewise, NC candidate Suraj Chandra Lamichhane obtained 4,510 to win the election for Province Assembly (2). He defeated his nearest competitor UML’s Ganesh Prasad Dualal who secured 2,753. Dulal was elected to the Bagmati Province Assembly from the same constituency in the previous elections held in 2017.

NC former general secretary Prakashman Singh has already secured his place in the HoR from the Kathmandu-1, entering the parliament fourth time as the people’s representatives.
