SC hearing on writs against President’s non-certification of Citizenship Bill fails to take place



KATHMANDU: The hearing on writ petitions filed against the President failed to take place in the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday.

The writ petitions filed in connection with the President not certifying the Citizenship Bill were not heard today, despite them being assigned to the bench of Justice Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma.

The Supreme Court has yet to set a date for hearing these petitions again after hearing on them were not held today.

The President did not certify the Citizenship Bill, which was endorsed by both Houses of Parliament and National Assembly twice and sent for verification, on the last day of the constitution stipulated deadline of September 20.

The different writ petitions demanded an SC order, claiming that the President had violated the constitutional framework.
