KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has said there remained no possibility of electoral coordination with the CPN-Maoist Center and other left parties in the November 20 elections and the party would go to the polls alone.
Prithvi Subba Gurung, chief of UML Publicity Department, said the meeting of the UML Standing Committee held at the party central office on Tuesday decided that the chances of forging coordination with the Maoists in the election was over.
“At present, the UML has 34 percent popular vote, the Nepali Congress has about 33 percent and remaining parties have 8-10 percent,” he said, adding, “Just because there is no alliance does not mean that we should not go to the election. If there is no alliance, UML will not go to the elections alone and face the coalition alone.”
Subba clarified that though there could be coordination with like-minded forces, he ruled out possibility of coordination with the Maoists.
“The UML would coordinate with those favoring good governance and prosperity with the agenda of democracy and federal democratic republic,” he said. “However, coordination with Maoists and other leftist parties is over.”
