Balen widens lead with 47,091 votes in KMC

Independent mayoral candidate of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Balen Shah has maintained the lead against the candidate of the alliance.

According to the vote count updates made public as of Monday afternoon, Shah has got  47,091 votes. He is 19,175 votes ahead the nearest competitor. His contender for Nepali Congress (NC) Sirjana Singh garnered 27,916  votes.

Similarly, Keshav Sthapit of CPN-UML is trailing behind with 27,105 votes.

Bharatpur Metropolis: Renu widens gap, garners 45,887 votes

Common candidate for the ruling alliance for the post of Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City Renu Dahal has taken a lead of 11,010 votes.

She has received 46,255 votes while her nearest contender Bijaya Subedi of CPN-UML has got 35,245 votes.

Likewise, independent candidate Jagannath Poudel has received 14,028 votes.

Vote count of 9 wards of Kathmandu underway

The counting of votes in Kathmandu Metropolitan City is underway.

The vote count of nine wards — 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22 and 26 — of Kathmandu is underway.

Marasini appointed captain of U-19 women’s cricket team

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has appointed Kritika Marasini as the captain of the U-19 national women’s cricket team.

Issuing a press release here today, the CAN has stated that Marasini has been appointed as the captain for the ICC U-19 Women’s World Cup qualifying round to be held in Malaysia.

NEPSE continues downtrend, drops to 2200 points Monday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has dropped to 2200 points today.

On Monday, the first trading day of the week, the market fell by 34.21 points and stopped at 2200.88 points.

The transaction amount also shrunk as the market declined today. The prices of all subgroups remained low today.

Women Minister pledges amendment to rape-related law within current parliament session

Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Uma Regmi, pledged to take initiation for tabling a government-sponsored bill to amend the law regarding rape within the ongoing House session.

In a meeting of the Women and Social Committee, House of Representatives today, the Minister said the government was committed to ensure justice to survivors of sexual violence and would seek help from all related quarters if her efforts to introduce the bill were not sufficient.
