UML finalizes mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates of metros, sub-metros



KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has finalized the mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates of metropolises for the upcoming local elections.

A meeting of the UML Secretariat held at the residence of Chairman KP Sharma Oli in Balkot on Saturday evening decided on the candidates of metropolises.

The Secretariat meeting decided to nominate Keshav Sthapit for the post of mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Likewise, Sunita Dangol is the deputy mayoral candidate in Kathmandu.

Bijay Sarawgi will be the mayoral candidate of Birgunj metropolis from the UML. The party forged electoral coordination for the deputy mayor in Birjung with Democratic Socialist Party (DSP).

Similarly, it has been decided to nominate Bijay Subedi as the mayoral candidate in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Deepak Poudel as mayor and Manju Gurung as deputy mayor in Pokhara Metropolitan City, Harikrishna Byanjankar as the mayor and Manjila Shakya as the deputy mayor of Lalitpur metropolis.

The UML has also confirmed candidates for nine sub-metropolitan cities.

However, mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates for Janakpur and Jitpur Simara sub-metropolises have not been nominated and deputy mayoral candidate in Kalaiya sub-metropolis is also yet to be nominated.

In the remaining sub-metropolitan cities, both the mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates have been decided.

Butwal: Baburam Khadka for mayor, Sabitradevi Aryal for deputy mayor

Hetauda: Ananta Poudel for mayor, Sumitra Kafle for deputy mayor

Dharan: Manju Bhandari for mayor, Padam Limbu for deputy mayor

Itahari: Yam Kumar Subba for mayor, Sangita Chaudhary for deputy mayor

Kalaiya: Binod Sah for mayor
