EC appeals to complete candidacy registration in a systematic and peaceful manner
The Election Commission (EC) has appealed to the offices of the Chief Electoral Officer and the Electoral Officer and all concerned to complete the nomination registration for the local level election on Sunday and Monday in a systematic and peaceful manner.
The local election is slated for May 13 and as per election schedule, Sunday and Monday is allocated for candidacy registration.
The EC has asked parties and independents to file candidacy on any of the two days convenient for them.
US lawmakers meet Prime Minister Deuba
A delegation of US lawmakers visiting Nepal has met Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar on Saturday morning.
According to the Prime Minister’s secretariat, a four-member high-level parliamentary delegation led by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand met Prime Minister Deuba today.
During the meeting, issues related to Nepal-US relations, climate issues, multidimensional partnership among many others were discussed.
CPN-US finalizes candidates for metros and sub-metros
The CPN-Unified Socialist (CPN-US) has finalized the candidates for the metropolitan and sub-metropolitan cities.
The CPN-US decided to field Dhanraj Acharya as mayor of Pokhara, Rameshwar Shrestha as deputy mayor of Kathmandu, Meena Lama as mayor of Hetauda sub-metropolis.
Similarly, the party finalized Chin Bahadur Gurung, Jog Bahadur Rana and Keshav Bista as deputy mayoral candidates of Butwal, Tulsipur and Itahari sub-metropolises respectively.
WHO Director-General Tedros concludes three-day visit to Nepal
World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanoma Gabrias has left for Geneva after a three-day visit to Nepal.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the WHO Director-General and his team returned to Geneva on Saturday morning.
Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health and Population bade farewell to Tedros at the Tribhuvan International Airport today.
UML finalizes mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates of metros, sub-metros
The CPN-UML has finalized the mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates of metropolises for the upcoming local elections.
A meeting of the UML Secretariat held at the residence of Chairman KP Sharma Oli in Balkot on Saturday evening decided on the candidates of metropolises.
The Secretariat meeting decided to nominate Keshav Sthapit for the post of mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Likewise, Sunita Dangol is the deputy mayoral candidate in Kathmandu.
Stock market drops by 4 points in first trading week of 2079 BS
The stock market index NEPSE has declined by around 4 points this week, the first trading week of 2079 BS.
The future direction of NEPSE, which was trying to recover after a five-month low last Thursday, seems unclear owing to the looming financial and economic uncertainties.
In particular, the problem of lack of capital in the banking sector has not been resolved, and there has been widespread concern about the economy.
NC top brass seeking consensus on candidates of metros and sub-metros
A meeting of the top leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC) is underway in Baluwatar on Saturday afternoon.
The meeting is to seek consensus on the mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates of the metropolises and sub-metropolises.
NC current and former office bearers, among others, are attending the meeting. Leader Shekhar Koirala has also been invited to the meeting of the top leaders.
Nepal imports Cheese-balls, Lays worth Rs 580 million in 9 months
Nepal has imported cheese balls, crisps and kurkure worth Rs. 580 million in first nine months of current fiscal year.
The data released by the customs department for the month of July-April shows that Rs. 580 million was spent on the import of these three items.
The department has informed that 1.293 million kilograms of cheese, crisps and kurkure have been imported in the last nine months.
The importers have paid Rs 366.40 million to the state for importing this commodity.
Cheese, crisps and tails are imported to Nepal from 12 countries of the world.
EC asks leaders in closed list of PR system to remove names if they want to contest local polls
The Election Commission (EC) has asked the leaders who are in the closed list under proportional election system for House of Representatives or Province Assembly to remove their names if they want to fight in the local level election slated for May 13.
They are given the time to remove their names from the closed list by next day (April 23).
If they are still mentioned in the closed list of proportional election system, they would be barred from filing candidacies in the local level election, the EC reiterated.
Nepal sees 18 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours
Nepal recorded a total of 18 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Saturday.
All the confirmed cases were detected through the RT-PCR method.
A total of 4,947 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours. Of them, 3,691 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 1,256 through the Antigen method.
