EC appeals to complete candidacy registration in a systematic and peaceful manner

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has appealed to the offices of the Chief Electoral Officer and the Electoral Officer and all concerned to complete the nomination registration for the local level election on Sunday and Monday in a systematic and peaceful manner.

The local election is slated for May 13 and as per election schedule, Sunday and Monday is allocated for candidacy registration.

Issuing a statement on Saturday, EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel urged to ensure there is no obstruction from any side in the process of registering candidacy in local election, noting it was the natural right of all the citizens qualified as per the law to file nomination for the posts of local level members.

The EC has asked parties and independents to file candidacy on any of the two days convenient for them.

It further clarified that this time two days were given for registration as a single day in the past seemed to be hectic and insufficient to complete all the process related to candidacy registration, including publication of final list of candidates.

The statement added the EC had set aside two days for nomination registration in consultation with stakeholders.

The EC also directed electoral officers not to allow registration of candidates of political parties through lottery.
