NC’s CWEC meeting rescheduled for 3 pm

To finalize candidates for metropolises and sub metropolises

KATHMANDU: The Central Work Execution Committee (CWEC) meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) called for 11 am has been rescheduled for 3 pm.

The CWEC meeting has been adjourned for 3 pm after the top-notch leaders could not reach a consensus on the candidacy issue, said Krishna Prasad Paudel, the chief secretary of the central party office of the NC.

The ruling has called the CWEC meeting at the central party office in Sanepa to finalize the names of candidates allocated for the metropolitan cities and sub metropolitan cities by the five-party ruling alliance.

The CWEC meeting called for Friday  had also been postponed owing to the differences on the candidacy issue among the top-notch leaders.

The meeting failed to strike chords after the leaders present in the meeting did not budge from their respective stances on the candidates recommended.

According to an NC leader, the meeting, however, finalized the name of Sirjana Singh for the post of mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

As for the candidate for Biratnagar mayor, the names of Nagesh Koirala, Bhim Parajuli, Deela Sangraula, and Amrit Aryal were discussed in the meeting.

Dr. Shekhar Koirala spoke in favor of Koirala while leader Krishna Sitoula stood with incumbent mayor Parajuli, according to an NC leader.

“Dr. Shekhar Koirala kept stance for Nagesh, Sitoula spoke in favor of Acharya while some leaders loyal to President Sher Bahadur Deuba stood in favor of Deela while the other took stance for Aryal,” said the leader.

Similarly, Dirghaman Shrestha is likely to be fielded for the post of deputy mayor in Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

The leader in the meeting could not reach consensus on the candidacy of Pokhara Metropolitan City.

NC has got three mayors and three deputy mayors of metropolitan cities as per the agreement reached among the five coalition parties.
