Silent period for National Assembly election begins



KATHMANDU: The silent period for National Assembly (NA) election slated for January 26 has started from Sunday midnight.

Election-related campaign is prohibited from midnight, according to Election Commission spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel.

In a press statement released by the Commission on Sunday, the Commission ordered that the publicity materials and electoral signs should be removed from the polling centres and campaigning through digital platforms such as Facebook and Viber are also forbidden.

The Commission has urged one and all to comply with the election code of conduct.

Voters could cast their ballot showing the voter identity card issued by the Commission during the local level election in 2017, House of Representatives and Province Assembly member election and the by-election in 2019.

The NA election is going to be held for 19 posts that are getting their term expired from March 4 this year.
