Postponement of local elections unacceptable: Chairman Oli

“UML ready to face any election at any time”

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairperson KP Oli has said that his party was ready to face any election at any time.

Issuing a press release Sunday, Oli said, “Our party has been reiterating for a fresh mandate since last year and we stand by it today. We are ready to face any election at any time.”

Oli said that the efforts of the ruling coalition to postpone the local elections would be unacceptable at any cost.

According to him, local-level elections should not be deferred under the pretext of holding the general election.

In a strong-worded statement, Chairman Oli has alleged the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government for failing to address the problems of the people.

Stating that the three organs of the state — the executive, the judiciary and the legislature — have not been able to function properly, UML Chair Oli said, “The country seems to be moving towards a disaster and a failed state.”

He has also criticized the current government for stifling the country’s economy, for remaining silent even when India has continued to expand the road in Lipulekh-Limpiyadhura, for unilaterally severing ties with China by setting up a border study committee, and for not appointing ambassadors to various countries, among others.
