EC clarifies no addition or changes have been made to voters list

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has clarified that there would be no addition or changes in the voters’ list which was already updated.

Issuing a press release today, EC’s Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel asserted that no action would be undertaken on voters’ name lists during the election.

The task of voters roll update has been adjourned since February 8 when the Nepal government announced the local level election date for coming May 13.

The voters’ roll update has been regularly undertaken by the Commission before the election date was announced.

In the context when applications are being registered seeking changes in the voters’ list following the publication of final list, the existing legal provision of the Voters’ Rollout Act, 2073 (Clause 21) did not allow to make changes, additions and omissions, the EC further clarified.

It also claimed that the issue would not be challenged at the courts in accordance with the Act.
