WHO Chief Dr Tedros praises Prime Minister Deuba



KATHMANDU: Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has met Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

During the meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence in Balutar on Friday, Prime Minister Deuba apprised the WHO chief of various government programs launched to make the health service more effective. He also thanked the WHO for its support in the health sector, including COVID control.

The Prime Minister said that the government was ready to cooperate on several issues such as capacity building of Nepali health workers and multilateral partnerships in the health sector.

During the meeting, WHO Director General Dr. Tedros praised Prime Minister Deuba for effectively managing the vaccination campaign against coronavirus. He noted that almost everyone had been vaccinated in Nepal.

He said that the strategy of the Nepal Government proved to be effective in controlling and preventing COVID19.

Dr Tedros also thanked the Nepal for introducing typhoid vaccine to children for the first time in South Asia. He also lauded Nepal’s progress in various health indicators, including reducing child and maternal mortality in a short period of time.
