Nepal receives geophysical survey report of Panchkhal from the UK

KATHMANDU: Nepal has received a report of the geophysical survey conducted at archeological sites of Panchkhal Municipality by expert team from the UK one year ago.

Although it was said that the UK expert team would send the report after three months, it has been received after around one year due to various reasons, including coronavirus pandemic.

The survey carried out by Archeologists of the Department of Archeology along with the expert team of London at different places of Panchkhal Municipality last March suggested high potentiality of historic archeological features.

The Survey facilitated by the expert team from the UK’s Durham University covered the surroundings of the areas —Simalighari, Basuki Sthan, Maltar, Kankeshwor Mahadev Temple, health post and Bharamkot of ward no 6. Bishnu Pathak, Archeological Officer of the Department, who was also in the survey team, said that immense potentiality of historic heritages was seen in course of survey.

Pathak shared, “Immense potentiality of historic heritages was seen in the archeological sites, where the survey was conducted, in course of data analysis. The report of the survey received from the UK will mention it in details.”

The detailed report of the survey would be released only after one month, said Spokesperson of the Department, Ram Bahadur Kunwar. He added that geophysical survey was conducted at other places of the country, including Panchkhal, in order to find out what kind of physical infrastructures are under the ground in the first phase.

The geophysical survey was carried out at Panchkhal through British Survey’s machine and drone camera. Earlier, the Department has already on June 29, 2020, informed UNESCO about the heritages of Panchkhal.

The eight-member expert team of Durham University in London, had arrived in Nepal in the first week of March, 2021, to carry out survey of heritages of different places of the country including Panchkhal.
