KATHMANDU: Member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Dr Surya Dhungel said the NHRC was working in line with the 6-year strategic plan to achieve sustainable development goal (SDGs).

Almost all points of SDGs are related to human rights, so NHRC activities would contribute to them, he asserted during a workshop organized on ‘SDGs and Human Rights’ by the NHRC Madhes Province office here Monday.

He however pointed out the need of collective and collaborative efforts to take together SDGs and human rights to achieve SDGs. The NHRC would coordinate with all three layers of government and civil society for it, according to him.

Poverty, inequality and caste discrimination are challenges of human rights, he said, adding that the achievement of SDGs would help address these problems.

On the occasion, Province Assembly member Ram Ashish Yadav viewed human rights situation in Madhes was not satisfactory. Commitment in paper does not solve problems, he argued.
