NC General Secretary Thapa announces he will not join govt

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has announced that he will not join the government to be formed soon.

Speaking to the media after his defeat in the NC parliamentary party (PP) leader election held in Kathmandu on Wednesday, General Secretary Thapa said that he would not join the next government, yet, would take the initiative to form an NC-led government.

Other friends from the party will join the government if NC-led government is formed,” he said, “There is a need for transformation and generational change in the party, this is my conviction and I stick to it.”

General Secretary Thapa clarified that he is not disappointed at the result and would spend all his in preparation for such role in future.

He emphasized on the need to proceed in a transparent manner by discussing various positions including the President and Prime Minister within the party.

Thapa warned that any decisions on power-sharing not discussed in the parliamentary party and the official committee would be treated as personal and would not get any validity.

He promised to take initiative to form the government under the leadership of Nepali Congress from today.

NC leader Thapa has been defeated by party President Deuba  in the election held to pick the PP leader on Wednesday. Prime Minister and party President Deuba got 64 votes while General Secretary Thapa got 25 votes.
