Voting begins in Devchuli Municipality of East Nawalparasi



NAWALPARASI: Voting has started in Devchuli Municipality-4 of East Nawalparasi today.

Voting was halted after the provincial proportional ballot box at Shanti Shrijana Basic School in Jhakre of Devchuli Municipality-4 was torched by local Narayan Bhandari on Sunday.

Voting is being held only for the Provincial Assembly’s proportional representatives. There are only 980 votes in Jhakre.

On Sunday evening, voting took place for first-past-the-post (FPTP) system for House of Representatives (HoR) and Province Assembly.

Provincial proportional voting was decided to be held today following the incident of ballot set on fire yesterday.

Chief District Officer Suman Ghimire said security arrangements have been tightened at the polling station today.

Meanwhile, the counting of FPTP votes for Nawalparasi East constituency 2 was set to take place from 10 am today.

The Election Commission has prepared to count the votes of constituency 1 after the polling of Devchuli concludes.

Security has been tightened at the Kumaravarti campus in Kawasoti, the district headquarters, where the counting of votes will take place.
