Man killed in police firing during Sunday’s elections

BAJURA: A man was killed after being shot by a security person at Triveni Municipality-7 in Bajura district on Sunday.

The deceased is identified as Sanjib Aidi died on the spot.

At least three others were injured in the incident.

A clash between the police deployed at a polling center at Nateshwori Basic School and local people that led to the shooting, said the Municipality Mayor Karna Bahadur Thapa.

The injured persons (Parshuram Padhyay, Khadka Aidi and Prem Thapa) are receiving treatment at a local health facility.

Meanwhile, a clash between cadres of the Nepali Congress and the CPN UML took place at a polling center at Kalika Secondary School in Badimalika-9.

The police had to fire bullets in the air to take the situation under control, said the police.

Likewise, voting was postponed at some areas of Budhinanda Municipality and Budhiganga Municipality following disputes, said the police.

Assistant Chief District Officer Lokendra Bista said efforts were underway to take stock of voting postponement and the incident at Triveni Municipality.
