Election Commission seeks Rs 11 billion for Nov 20 election



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has sought a budget of Rs 11 billion to hold federal and provincial elections.

Spokesperson for EC Shaligram Sharma said the EC has made a formal request to the Finance Ministry for an allocation of Rs 10.98 billion for the election.

The government is holding federal and provincial elections in a single phase on November 20.

“We have formally made a request for budget allocation from the Finance Ministry. The ministry will now hold needful discussions and allocate the needful amount,” he added.

The EC had demanded Rs 8.95 billion to hold the local level elections across 753 local bodies of the country on March 13. The Finance Ministry had allocated it Rs 8.11 billion.

Of the allocated amount, EC returned the unspent Rs 1.5 billion to the Finance Ministry in July.
