KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) central member Arzu Rana Deuba has remarked that the strife among the parties had made space for independent candidates to enter Nepali politics.
Addressing an orientation program held by NC Parbat District Working Committee for people’s representatives, who were elected from the May 13 local election, on Tuesday, she said independents ventured into politics due to feuds evident among political parties.
Citing problems within the NC, she said that internal factionalism, sabotage and strife had created a situation for independents to enter politics.
“Political parties’ demonstrative behavior of ego tussles, decamping and bitter quarrels on the pretext of debates and reconciliation within the parties had led to the rise of independents,” she said.
Reminding the tussle between senior NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel and party president Sher Bahadur Deuba in terms of individual differences and aspirations, she said the two leaders had always come together as one on the issues of the party and the country. She urged party rank and file in Parbat to learn from the two leaders’ unity and mutual support.
Stating that it was natural to have differences and not everyone in the party could be content, she warned that on this basis if one starts to abuse the other by completely abandoning politics then such politics would not go far.
“We have to do politics based on what our bigger goal is. Time results in friendships and at times, we even lose friends. But regardless of how much we disagree, we will always be the blocks of the NC. Therefore why should we take internal issues out of the party and amuse the world by creating fuss?” she wondered.
Reminding such was the scenario of political parties, she argued independents made space into politics due to the very reasons.
Leader Rana also cautioned party rank and file regarding the usage of social media. ‘Social media is a very interesting thing. We should be a little careful. You write a status, the screenshot of which is stored by someone somewhere. Anytime in the future, it could surface question your beliefs,” she said.
