KATHMANDU: Additional two persons have been confirmed to have contracted cholera in Kathmandu Valley.

Information officer of the Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital (STIDH) Navaraj Gautam confirmed that two of the three admitted on suspicion of cholera were found to have been suffering from the disease.

Of the two contracting Cholera, one is a shopkeeper residing in Sanepa and another patient is a farmer from Sindhupalchowk.

Earlier, two sisters residing in Bagbazaar were diagnosed with cholera in Kathmandu Valley.

The Epidemiology and Diseases Control Division (EDCD) has been collecting samples of sewage, water sources and food, among others, from Bagbazaar.

Infectious Disease Specialist Dr Sher Bahadur Pun at STIDH is wary that cholera has spread in Kathmandu.

According to experts, the appearance of Cholera even in a single individual is a matter of high concern since cholera spreads rapidly.

Dr Pun is of the view that the communicable disease has already entered Kathmandu and expected outbreak in coming days. “The food and water taken by the infected persons might have been consumed by others as well. However, it is spreading slowly as of now.”

Cholera is a bacterial disease that usually spread through contaminated water. Cholera causes severe diarrhea and dehydration.
