Tamor corridor reduces Dharan Pathibhara trip by four hours

TAPLEJUNG: After the opening up of Tamor corridor which is constructed along the bank of Tamor river from Sunsari to Taplejung, the travel time from Dharan to Pathibhara of Taplejung has decreased by four hours.

This opportunity has inspired many to travel Pathibhara via this faster track.

”It would take more than 16 hours to reach Pathibhara via Mechi highway while travelling from Dharan,” said Basudeb Baral, a tourism entrepreneur from Dharan who owns Sechha Adventure Park, Sechha Travels and Hotel Sechha.

He added, ”This has opened new avenues for more touristic footfalls from Dharan and around.”

On the occasion of New Nepali Year of 2079 BS, Baral, together with his tourism entrepreneur Pramesh Shrestha who owns Hotel Nava Yug, was at Pathibhara temple which is a famed religious destination in Province 1.

”The route to Taplejung along the bank of Tamor river was super exciting and the road is much wider and visibly safer than Mechi highway,” said Baral.

Baral, however, said there needs to upgrade infrastructure in speedy way for all-weather commutation.

The 314-kilometre-long roadway connects India and China via Nepal from Sunsari to Taplejung.

The blacktopping has not started yet. However, commutation has already started which has benefitted people like Baral and Shrestha.

”This route, if utilized wisely, could be a game changer project in eastern hills both in terms of tourism and investment,” said Kushum Shrestha, the Province Assembly member of Province 1 who hails from Dhankuta district.
