Ruling coalition is conspiring to postpone election: UML Chair Oli

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has claimed that there is a conspiracy to postpone the election by revoking the appointment of the Election Commission Commissioner.

Addressing a meeting of the UML Politburo that started at the Karki Banquet at Babar Mahal on Monday, the UML chair claimed that the Election Commission and the ruling coalition were holding secret discussions to influence the election.

“Efforts are still being made to postpone the election in an artistic, conspiratorial manner. Discussions are underway between the Election Commission and the ruling coalition,” Oli said.

He accused the Supreme Court of working in league with the ruling coalition and said that the court was trying to influence the election by revoking the constitutional appointment of three commissioners.

The Constitutional Bench of the apex court has started the hearing on the writs filed against KP Oli-led government’s appointments made in the constitutional bodies including the Election Commission.

“If the appointment is revoked, the election might be postponed under the pretext that only two commissioners will not be able to hold the election. There is a conspiracy against us,” Oli said.
