Curfew clamped in Letang after police killed in clash



BIRATNAGAR: The local administration has issued a curfew order after a policeman was killed in a clash at Letang in Morang district over an incident of sexual abuse.

The District Administration Office, Morang has imposed a curfew in the Letang Municipality-5 Kheruwa area from 7 am on Monday till further orders.

Assistant Chief District Officer Sharad Kumar Pokhrel has urged not to violate the order.

A grade 6 student was sexually abused by a teacher and was released on bail.

Manoj Poudel, 56, a teacher at Shiksha Vikas Madhyamik Vidyalaya in Letang Municipality-5 has been accused of sexually abusing a grade 7 student.

Similarly, police constable Urmila Shrestha was stabbed in the neck, said Navin Kumar Rai, spokesperson of the State Police Office.

She was rushed to Koshi Provincial Hospital but was pronounced dead.

Twenty-five people, including Morang Police Chief Superintendent of Police (SP) Janardan GC, were injured in the incident. Seven locals were also injured.
