Mobile-banking users on rise



KATHMANDU: Widespread of the coronavirus in 2020 made a drastic change in the lifestyle of the people. It not only confined the people of the world at home, it also compelled the people to update themselves with the new technology.

According to the data released by Nepal Rastra Bank, there were 159,441,535 mobile banking users till mid-December.

Mobile banking which was not getting momentum in Nepal despite the banks and financial institutions frequent request to take to it, became a compulsion for all people in the country.

The shutting down of the banks and financial institutions and the dread of getting transmitted to the coronavirus obliged people to seek alternative ways of transaction.

There are 159.41 million 535 mobile banking users in Nepal.

As of mid-November, there were 15.43 million 379 mobile banking users. Compared to that, the number of mobile banking users increased by 500,000 by mid-December.

Lately, mobile banking has taken a leap in digital business. In the month of December, 88.53 billion transactions have been made through mobile banking. During that period, 13 million 54 thousand 684 transactions have been made through mobile banking.

The transaction amount was also higher in December than in November. The turnover was Rs 78.15 billion in one month’s period from mid-October to mid-November. During that period, 12.6 million 15 thousand 637 transactions were made.
