SANKHUWASABHA: Landslide triggered by continuous rain has obstructed the Khandbari to Kimathanka section of the North-South Road leading to Bhotkhola and Makalu rural municipalities in Sankhuwasabha district.

With this, the vehicular traffic to ward numbers 3 and 4 of Makalu rural municipality and to the entire Bhotkhola rural municipality has become inoperable, informed North-South Road Office chief engineer Dipesh Rajak.

Road transport to Bhotkhola has been cut off with the obstruction of this section of the North-South Road at different locations.

It has been raining incessantly for two days in the district. The landslide debris could not be removed until the rain stops, said Rajak, adding that it would take additional 4 to 5 days to clear off the debris once the rain stops.

Transportation services have been shut down in Bhotkhola rural municipality and some wards of Makalu rural municipality due to obstruction of the road.

Transport service is currently operating only up to Phyaksinda of Makalu rural municipality from Khandbari.

A mototable bridge over the Arun River linking ward number 5 and 3 of Makalu rural municipality is also at risk due to a landslide.

The landslide has washed away the land around the base of one end of the bridge.

The road leading to Bhotkhola rural municipality was reopened recently after shutting down for nearly a month.
