Final election results in two municipalities of Morang and one in Sunsari



BIRATNAGAR: The final results of the May 13 local election have been announced for two municipalities in Morang district and one in Sunsari district.

According to the Biratnagar-based Provincial Election Office, Dil Prasad Rai of the CPN (UML) has won the mayor post in Belbari municipality of Morang district. He secured 16,422 votes against the 15,620 collected by his closest competitor Mahendra Prasad Subedi of the Nepali Congress (NC). NC’s Nitu Thapa won the deputy mayor post with 13,731 votes. Her nearest competitor, UML’s Til Kumari Neupane bagged 13,605.

The NC has won the ward chair posts in six wards, the UML in four wards, and an independent candidate in one ward.

Similarly, NC candidate Nageshwor Prasad Singh Ganagain has been elected the mayor of Ratuwamai municipality in Morang district by securing 13,135 votes. His closest contender UML’s Durga Bahadur Bista collected 11,252 votes. Damayanta Devi Chudal of the UML has won the deputy mayor with 9,374 votes. Her closest competitor Suman Kalikote of the CPN (Maoist Center) polled 8,479 votes.

UML candidates have been elected the ward chair in five wards, NC in four wards and Maoist Center in one ward of the municipality.

Gachchhadar wins in Duhabi municipality of Sunsari

Meanwhile, NC’s Ved Narayan Gachchhadar has been elected the mayor in Duhabi municipality of Sunsari district by securing 11,916 votes. His nearest rival Binaya Kumar Pokhrel of the UML garnered 11,461 votes.

Similarly, NC’s Menuka Pokhrel has been elected the deputy mayor with 11,430 votes. Her nearest contender Saroj Kumar Singh of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal polled 5,080 votes.

The NC candidates have been elected to the post of ward chair in eight wards and the UML candidates in four wards of the municipality. There are a total 12 wards in this municipality.
