No deadline for registration of rape-related cases: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary and lawmaker Gagan Thapa has said that there should be no deadline for the registration of rape-related issues.

Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday, he requested the Speaker to direct the government to reconsider the legal deadline on rape.

NC lawmaker Thapa demanded a thorough investigation of the rape-related case of a beauty pageant contestant.

“The young girl’s claim that she has been a rape victim of a case that occurred some eight years before is going viral on social media, I was shocked to see my daughters terrified watching the video,” he said, adding, “I request the Speaker to direct the government to investigate on the issue, arrest the culprit, protect the victim and also plead all to work out to revoke the provisions of the deadline for the registration of rape related cases.”

Through social media, a victim had revealed that she was raped eight years ago in the name of a beauty pageant.
