RPP wins in UML Chair Oli’s home town



DAMAK: Rastriya Prajatangra Party (RPP)’s candidate Ram Kumar Thapa won the post of mayor in Damak municipality by defeating UML candidate Geeta Kumar Adhikari.

Thapa emerged victorious by securing 17,525 votes while his nearest rival Adhikari polled 16,966.

Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center) and the RPP had formed an alliance against the UML in this town which was the centre of election discussions.

Commenting on the election results, Maoist Center  leader Tirtha Raj Basnet said that they had taken away the UML’s long-standing stronghold.

Similarly, NC candidate Regina Prasai became the deputy mayor. She got 17,072 votes while her closest rival Ambika Prasad Khanal of UML obtained 16,574 votes.

Out of 58,176 voters in Damak municipality, 39,736 votes were cast.
