US Under Secretary Zeya arriving Nepal today

KATHMANDU: Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights and United States Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues Uzra Zeya is arriving in Nepal today.

US Under Secretary Zeya had arrived in New Delhi, India, on Tuesday, as part of six-day India Nepal visit. Under Secretary Zeya is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu today after concluding first leg of her visit to India.

During her India visit, Zeya reached Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday and met the Dalai Lama. She also met with representatives of the Tibetan government-in-exile, including Penpa Tsering.

It has been said she would discuss partnering with India and Nepal during this Year of Action for the Summit for Democracy. According to a source, Under Secretary Zeya is scheduled to hold talks with Nepali officials as well as Tibetan refugees in Nepal.

The Department of State earlier said Under Secretary’s six-day official visit to India and Nepal (May 17-22) would deepen cooperation on human rights and democratic governance goals, and to advance humanitarian priorities.

The Under Secretary-led delegation includes USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator for Asia Anjali Kaur.
