Ruling coalition yet to seal deal on Janakpur and Nepalgunj sub metropolises

Will today's meeting strike chords?



KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition is holding a meeting even today after the meeting held on Tuesday midnight did not reach an agreement on Janakpur and Nepalgunj sub-metropolitan cities.

Even though the ruling coalition reached an agreement on the distribution of six metropolitan cities and nine sub-metropolitan cities, the leaders of the five-party alliance are yet to reach an agreement on Janakpur and Nepalgunj sub-metropolitan cities.

The meeting has been called 11 am today after Janata Samajwadi Party kept staking a claim on both the metropolises.

Of the 11 sub-metropolitan cities, Nepali Congress will field mayors in Dharan, and Dhagadhi and CPN (Maoist Center) will field deputy mayors. Similarly, In Itahari and Tulsipur, NC will field candidates for the posts of mayors while CPN (Unified Socialist) will field candidates for the posts of deputy mayors. In Jitpur-Simara and Ghorahi, Maoist Center will field mayors and NC will field deputy mayors.

Likewise, Unified Socialist will field a candidate for the post of mayor and Nepali Congress will field its candidate for the post of deputy mayor in Hetauda.

In Kalaiya, NC will field its candidate for the post of mayor while the post of deputy mayor will go to JSP, as per the agreement.

The ruling alliance has reached an agreement on six metropolitan cities. According to the agreement, NC will take the mayoral post of Kathmandu while the deputy mayoral post will go to Unified Socialist. The post of mayor in Lalitpur will go to NC and Maoist Center will take the post of deputy mayor.

Similarly, in Biratnagar, NC will field its candidate for the post of mayor while the post of deputy mayor will go to JSP. NC will field its candidate for the post of deputy mayor in Bharatpur while the mayoral post will go to Maoist Center.

Similarly, Unified Socialist will field its candidate for the post of mayor in Pokhara metropolis while the deputy mayoral post will go to NC. The mayoral post of Birgunj will go to JSP while that of deputy mayor has been allocated for NC as per the agreement.
