CIB releases actress Karki on bail after recording her statement

KATHMANDU: Actress Priyanka Karki, who was brought under police investigation for promoting cryptocurrency, has been released on bail.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) released her on bail on Sunday after recording her statement.

The CBI had summoned Karki to the office for questioning after the authorities found a cryptocurrency promotional content with Karki’s picture on Facebook.

Stating that the investigation had not been completed despite recording her statement, the police have seized Karki’s mobile phone for investigation and released her.

“The bureau began an investigation after seeing cryptocurrency promotional content with her picture,” said CBI Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Dhiraj Pratap Singh. “The investigation is still underway. We are trying to find out if the actress is involved in the crypto trading promotion or only her picture was used. We will also probe if she has invested in the crypto market. For now, we have sent her home with family members.”

Meanwhile, Karki told the media that she went to the CBI after finding out some crypto-currency apps featuring her in them. “I went to police seeking their support after finding out my pictures being used in promotional content,” Karki said.
