KATHMANDU: A decisive meeting of the  ruling coalition is underway at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar to forge consensus on the US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

A meeting at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar is likely to take an official decision on whether to submit the MCC compact in the House meeting today.

Nepali Congress (NC) has already decided to pass MCC. The CPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN (Unified Socialist), who are of the view of not submitting without amendment, have also given positive signals. With the alliance on the verge of breaking up, they have come close to agreeing to table the MCC.

If an agreement is reached in today’s meeting, the MCC will be tabled in the parliament sitting at 1 pm.

However, the Maoist Center and the Unified Socialist have said that even if it is tabled in the parliament, it will not be endorsed without amendment.
