KATHMANDU: A Nepali Congress leader close to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the ruling alliance will split today itself if the US grant millennium challenge (MCC) is not tabled in the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR).
“The NC is confident that the ruling coalition parties will agree to table the MCC in the HoR meeting today. In case they disagree to do so, the alliance will break up today itself,” said the leader.
He further said that the NC has given this message to the ruling coalition partners.
CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal has already agreed to hold discussions on the MCC in the parliament meeting.
“Unified Socialist Chairman Nepal has also given words that he would convince CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda to do so,” said the leader.
The HoR meeting has been scheduled for 1 pm today. Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has called a meeting of Business Advisory Committee (BAC) for 11 am. The BAC meeting is expected to fix the agenda items for the HoR meeting.
Similarly, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has called a meeting of the ruling alliance at 10 am to force consensus among the coalition partners on the MCC.
Coalition parties agree to table MCC in parliament
All the ruling coalition parties have agreed to table the MCC in the HoR meeting scheduled for today following a drawn-out dispute.
A Maoist Center leader said his party has also decided to table the MCC in the parliament meeting for discussions.
“It is not good to halt the MCC by our party alone while all the other coalition partners have agreed to table it in the parliament,” said the leader,
He further said that the alliance meeting called for today will officially take a decision on it.
An NC leader close to Prime Minister Deuba also said that the ruling coalition meeting will decide to table the MCC in the HoR meeting today.
“In case the meeting does not decide to this effect, the alliance will no longer remain intact. It will split today itself,” said the leader.
