Ruling coalition holding ‘decisive meeting’ on MCC today

KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition is holding a ‘decisive’ meeting on the US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) today.

Government spokesman and Communications Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has said that the meeting of the ruling coalition to be held on Sunday would decide on the MCC.

Speaking to journalists, Minister Karki said, “The top leaders of the ruling coalition engaged in a “brief discussion. The meeting ended on a positive note. It will take place at 10 am Sunday again. “The meeting will take a final call on the MCC,” said Minister Karki.

Minister Karki said that the discussions held between Prime Minister Deuba and the leader of the opposition KP Oli on Thursday evening were positive.

Earlier, a meeting of the ruling coalition convened at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar ended without any transient outcome.

The top-notch leaders of the ruling coalition failed to reach consensus on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) after they did not budge from their respective stance.  The meeting had been called in a bid to make an effort to reach a consensus on the MCC.

Meanwhile, a Standing Committee (SC) meeting held on Saturday decided to table the MCC with some amendments to it.

However, the Maoist center has already decided to quit the government if the government tabled the Compact without the consent of the ruling parties.
