Postponing local elections would be unconstitutional and undemocratic: Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa said postponing local elections would be unconstitutional and undemocratic.

He said that parliamentary elections cannot be held by deferring the local level elections.

Thapa said that the constitution has ensured the term of five years for the elected people’s representatives at the local level.

“The term of the House of Representatives is five years, just as the term of the local government,” he said.

He further added that it would be unconstitutional and undemocratic to postpone local elections.

He also clarified that the Nepali Congress would not agree on any issue other than moving ahead as per the Constitution.
