Prachanda and Dr. Baburam Bhattarai come together for talks

In a rare turn of events, Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” and former Maoist leader Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai sat for a discussion at Singha Durbar on Tuesday.

The two leaders have come together after a long gap.

The meeting has been held a couple of days after the Janata Samajbadi Party led by Upendra Yadav faction expelled Dr. Bhattarai from the party.

Sources say that Dr. Bhattarai has proposed Prachanda form a “Socialist Center” to lead the country toward socialism.

Prachanda extols NC decision to continue coalition till federal, state elections

CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has welcomed the decision of the Nepali Congress to give continuity to the coalition in the upcoming federal and provincial elections.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Prachanda said that NC’s decision to continue the alliance was very right. “We are also in favor of advancing this alliance. We do not have alternative plans,” he said.

The NC’s Central Working Committee meeting recently decided to continue the coordination between alliance partners in the upcoming federal and provincial elections.

Four RPP leaders desert party

Four senior leaders of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) who have been active for a long time in the party finally deserted the party on Tuesday.

Issuing a press release on Tuesday, Dilnath Giri, Dil Bikas Rajbhandari, Shyam Timalsina and Keshav Raj Shrestha announced their resignation from the party, making serious allegations against the leadership.

They said that they had to leave the party because the leadership humiliated and insulted them.

UML Senior Vice Chair Pokhrel urges not to dig further into M Adhikari

CPN-UML Senior Vice Chairman Ishwar Pokharel has urged not to inquire too much about M Adhikari, who figured in the UML’s finance and planning department as a member.

Various political parties and student organizations are demanding the resignation of Central Bank Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari asserting that the governor and M Adhikari is the same person.

Speaking at a function held by Press Chautari in Biratnagar on Tuesday, Senior Vice President Pokharel said there was no need for further the issue as the persons concerned had already furnished the clarification.

“The individual himself furnished clarification and UML too has given its statement,” said Pokhrel, “After this much, the issue should be put to rest. No more discussion on it is required.”

Police nab Civil Cooperatives chair Ichchha Raj Tamang’s wife

Police have arrested the wife of Ichchha Raj Tamang, the chairman of Civil Savings and Credit Cooperative Society, in connection to a fraud case related to the cooperative.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Srijana Shakya (Tamang), a member of the Cooperative’s Audit Committee, who was absconding till now, from Putlisadak, Kathmandu, on Tuesday.

According to CIB, Kathmandu District Court on January 11, 2021, had issued an arrest warrant against her.

A fraud case against the cooperative involving Rs 5.67 billion registered by 1,503 vicitms is under consideration in the court.

NEPSE increases by 16 points on Tuesday

Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has gained 16.03 points and reached 2045.63 points on Tuesday.

The index had gained 18.03 points on Monday.

The NEPSE index that opened at 2029.71 points made an intraday low of 2,028.17 and intraday high of 2,062.36 points to ultimately closed at 2,045.63 points today.

Nepal sees 357 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 357 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Tuesday.

Out of the confirmed cases, 268 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 89 through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 3,328 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours. Of them, 1,828 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 1,500 through the Antigen method.

RPP Central Performance Committee meeting begins

The meeting of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Central Performance Committee has started in its office in Kathmandu.

According to RPP Spokesperson Mohan Shrestha, the meeting is being held under the chairmanship of party chairman Rajendra Lingden.

He informed that the party’s former chairmen Pashupati Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana and Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani, senior leader Deepak Bohora, vice chairman, general ministers, and members of the central performance committee are present in the meeting.
