Police nab Civil Cooperatives chair Ichchha Raj Tamang’s wife



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested the wife of Ichchha Raj Tamang, the chairman of Civil Savings and Credit Cooperative Society, in connection to a fraud case related to the cooperative.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Srijana Shakya (Tamang), a member of the Cooperative’s Audit Committee, who was absconding till now, from Putlisadak, Kathmandu, on Tuesday.

According to CIB, Kathmandu District Court on January 11, 2021, had issued an arrest warrant against her.

A fraud case against the cooperative involving Rs 5.67 billion registered by 1,503 vicitms is under consideration in the court.

The government prosecutor’s office had filed a case against the 42 persons seeking punishment under the Civil Code, Civil Code, Organized Crime and Prevention Act.

Police had arrested 12 individuals, including operator of Soltimode-based Civil Cooperatives Ichchha Raj Tamang, on October 5, 2021, on the charge of misappropriating such a large sum of money deposited by general people.
