KATHMANDU: People take the skin problems in this season as allergies. This allergy also occurs in people of various age groups. Research has established that every person will experience allergies once in their life. Children are more vulnerable to such allergies than grownups.

Studies show that one in five children and one in fifty adults have skin allergies. According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, 10 to 20 percent of children worldwide have allergies, and 1 to 3 percent of adults also develop the disease.

Allergies differ on the skin of people. Allergies are caused by food, dust, pollen, plant leaves, and insect bites. Allergies can occur in any part of the body but mostly appears in exposed parts.

Recently, there is a growing tendency to treat all skin problems as allergies. However, not all skin problems are allergies. Allergy causes small rashes at first; gradually the rash increases and spreads to a larger area.

Other skin problems in summer

Different types of skin problems appear in the summer season. Of these, fungal infections are the most common problem. Fungal infections are more common in summer than in winter.

Due to excessive sweating in summer, if hygiene is not taken care of, fungal infections can occur. Fungal infection occurs if the clothes and shoes of an infected person are used by another person.

The problem of pimples is also very visible in this season. Glands in our skin are producing natural oils. Breakouts are also very visible due to the oil from our skin mixed with sweat. And, the sun also increases inflammation and allergies.

Why the problem increases in summer

Photo dermatitis is caused by sun exposure during the summer months. Sun exposure can cause skin inflammation, redness, and scarring. When there is a lot of sweat, it passes in the folds of the body, under the breast of a woman, under the neck, etc.

During this season, the problem of plant allergy and animal allergy is also seen. Pollutants from plants and animal fur are more allergenic.

Symptoms that appear

Allergies and fungal infections both cause a red, itchy rash on the skin. There are two types of fungal infections. (itchy and non-itchy) We call it ringworm in the common language. A round, circular rash appears on the skin.

It is very itchy. A slightly darker or slightly whiter than normal skin tone appears. It mainly starts in the armpits, neck, and chest area and spreads to other places. It is a non-itchy fungal infection.

As it is non-itchy, people may not notice it. Many people mistake it for ringworm. Many people think that white spots have come. However, they come for treatment only after noticing it in the body for a long time.

Fungal infections are more common in summer

This problem is seen more because there is more sweat in summer than in winter. Sweat accumulates in our body folds.

If you don’t pay attention to hygiene, infection will increase along with sweat. The fungus does not grow in the cold. In summer, the fungus grows more, and the infection increases.

What kinds of people are more prone to skin allergies?

Some skin allergies are genetic. Some have more genetic tendencies. Everyone lives in the sun. However, not everyone is allergic to sun exposure. Some are genetically predisposed. If someone is allergic to the sun, the allergy will come with just one hour of exposure to the sun.

Even a person who is not allergic to the sun can develop red spots by sensitizing the skin if they stay in the sun for a long time. Also, a small child may have hot flushes.

This is a very common problem in children. Such a rash does not itch. However, small dots appear. Keeping a small child covered in thick clothes, because they are cold, also causes red rashes.

Fungal infections are more common in obese people

A fat person sweats a lot, so the body gets stuck in the folds. Fungal infections are more common in obese women who sweat profusely under the breasts, neck, thighs and between the legs.

People with diabetes, pregnant women, and people with blood pressure, thyroid, and chronic diseases have low immunity, so viral infections and fungal infections are more common.

Risks exposed due to negligence to timely treatment

It is better to treat any problem on time. This problem should not cause problems in life. However, if left untreated for a long time, it can become complicated.

If the infection in a small area of the skin spreads to a large area, the treatment will take a long time. If the treatment is done in the beginning, it is better to apply only normal ointment. However, if it is not treated in time, you will have to take medicine for a long time.

Some people get bacterial infections along with fungal infections. In such cases, antibiotics should be taken.

Need to go to the hospital

One should go to the hospital if any itchy or non-itchy rash appears on the skin, a rash appears on the body fold and it is also growing on the surrounding skin, or if there is a painful rash. Someone who has itchy, non-itchy white or black spots should be treated on time.

Precautions that can be taken at home

We should pay special attention to cleanliness. One should bathe at least once a day. If you cannot take a bath, you should wipe your body with a handkerchief and apply body lotion. The antifungal powder can be applied to body folds.

Antifungal powder prevents sweat absorption and bacterial infection. People with pimples should wash their mouths in the morning and evening. Sunblock cream can be applied while staying at home or going out. When we apply sunblock we get SPF 50. Along with SPF, we should also look at the PA factor.

A sunblock with SPF 50 along with PA factor triple plus is best. People with dry skin should use creams and those with oily skin should use gel sunblock.

Prevention is better than cure

People with skin allergies should use a suitable sunblock. When going out of the house, you should wear clothes that cover the whole body and use an umbrella. Not only the sun, but pollution from the environment affects our skin.

Bathing daily helps avoid fungal infections. A child should not be overdressed. Applying extra virgin coconut oil when oiling the baby is soothing and prevents breakouts; hence it is advisable.
