PM Deuba to inform House about his US visit once the visit is officially confirmed

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said he would inform the parliament about his visit to the United States of America once the visit was officially confirmed.

During a meeting with Nepali Congress (NC) chief whip Pushpa Bhusal on Sunday, PM Deuba has expressed his willingness to formally inform the lawmakers either in the House or in the parliamentary committee.

NC chief whip Bhusal, who is also a member of the International Relations Committee of the House of Representatives, today met the PM in regard to the Committee’s invitation to the PM regarding his US visit.

Prior to this, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Narayan Khadka at the Committee meeting shared that initials talks were held for PM’s US visit but final decision was not taken so far.

The Committee had summoned PM Deuba at its meeting for today to discuss his US visit and implementation of Nepal’s foreign policy. However, it is said the PM could not attend the meeting citing his busy schedule.

According to Committee’s Chair Pabitra Niraula Kharel, the meeting on Sunday decided to again summon the PM and Defense Minister to take stock of PM’s visit.

Most of the Committee’s members at the meeting suggested the Government of Nepal to write to the US to withdraw from the State Partnership Program (SPP) since it is incorporated in the Indo-Pacific Strategy of the US after 2019.
