KATHMANDU: Ruling coalition partners have forged consensus that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba would not sign any deal during his visit to the United States.
A meeting of the leaders of the coalition parties held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Sunday morning approved the PM’s forthcoming visit to the US on condition that he would not ink any agreement.
Earlier, a parliamentary committee advised the prime minister to put off his US visit amid correspondence from the US army to Nepal government and the Nepali Army for signing US’ State Partnership Program (SPP).
Defying the parliamentary panel’s advice, PM Deuba has got his US visit approved from the ruling coalition partners.
Prime Minister Deuba also did not attend Parliament’s International Relations Committee meeting where he was to brief the panel about his US visit and government’s stance on SPP.
Instead of attending the committee meeting, PM Deuba had called a meeting of the ruling coalition in Baluwatar today.
