Students of the ruling coalition urge govt to withdraw price hike in petroleum products

KATHMANDU: The student unions affiliated to the ruling coalition parties have urged the government to withdraw the price hike in petroleum products.

Issuing a joint press statement on Saturday, the student organizations have objected to the increase in the price of petroleum products.

Students’ organizations of four parties other than the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) have drawn the attention of the government towards the impact price hike.

“Repeated price hikes without thinking of providing relief to the people are against the public interest,” the joint statement said, adding “We strongly urge the government and the Nepal Oil Corporation to immediately implement the agreements reached in the past and immediately reverse the recent price hike.”

However, the Nepal Students Union (NSU), a student wing of the ruling NC, has not signed the joint statement.

Earlier, all the students affiliated to the ruling coalition used to issue joint statements on every issue. The statement issued on Saturday has only the signatures of the student organizations affiliated to the ruling coalition other than the sister organization of the NC.
