Supported MCC after much deliberation: Maoist Chair Prachanda

KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has clarified that he had supported the US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact after much deliberation.

Speaking at a party program in Sindhuli on Saturday, he said that the MCC was ratified by tagging along with it 12-point supplementary notes after foreseeing the risk of losing achievements gained by revolutions in the past.

“If the revolutionaries had acted by saying they would not support MCC even with 12 points declaration, then the central coalition government, the speaker’s post, the state governments, and the peace agreement – all of it would have been lost,” said Prachanda.

“Were we to go underground and take up arms again? In the face of an apocalypse, it would be wise to take as much ground as you can, step on it and move ahead,” he said, adding, “The country has averted a crisis.”

Stating that it was a mistake to take action against the then Chief of Army Staff Rookmangud Katawal in 2009, Prachanda said that the party and the country suffered badly by the incident.

“In terms of taking action against Rookmangud, Baburam sitting on the right, and Badal, who was on the left, both were in a hurry for action. As a result, the party, the country, all of us suffered later,” he said.
