2.5 mln doses of COVID-19 vaccines go unrecorded

KATHMANDU: The Nepal government has stated that around 2.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been lost.

Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Roshan Pokharel said that there is no record of 2 to 2.5 million doses of vaccines.

There have been speculations that these vaccines may have been sold to corporate houses. Former Spokesperson of the Health Ministry Dr Jageshwor Gautam said the vaccines can be obtained if a search is launched into corporate houses.

Similarly, District Health Office, Kathmandu said it has been tipped off that one dose of vaccine is being sold for Rs 1,000 to various corporate houses in the Kathmandu Valley.

An official at the Ministry of Health and Population has informed that COVID-19 vaccines are being sold for Rs 1,000 per dose to corporate houses.

“We have been tipped off that people are receiving COVID-19 vaccines for Rs 1,000 per dose from corporate houses,” said the official, adding, “Vaccines are likely to be sold on the black market unless stringent actions are taken immediately.”
