NRB releases treasury bill worth Rs 167 billion in three months



KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has issued treasury bills worth more than 167 rupees in the first quarter of the current financial year.

According to NRB’s Monetary Management Department, the central bank issued treasury bills worth Rs 167.1 billion in the first quarter of the current financial year.

It issued bills worth Rs 56 billion in the first month (Shrawan), Rs 31.62 billion in the second (Bhadra) and Rs 79.48 billion in the third (Ashwin) month of the fiscal year 2022/23.

The central bank has been issuing 28-day, 91-day, 182-day and 364-day treasury bills to collect internal debt of 1 year or less than 1 year.

The central bank has arranged that all categories of banks and financial institutions, organized institutions and even ordinary citizens can participate in the bidding. Treasury Bills are distributed gradually up to the call amount giving first priority to the organization that sets the highest value in the bidding.

Out of the total 167 billion rupees, NRB has purchased 44.465 billion rupees. The rest have been renewed by banks and financial institutions.
