Reconstruction of Benikot completed

BENI: The historic fort house at Beni Municipality-8 of Myagdi has been reconstructed.

The fort was built in the 16th century in Beni, the winter capital of the then Parbat kingdom, during the reign of Malla kings. Chairperson of the Consumers’ Committee Anod Shrestha said that the fort was rebuilt with the help of Beni Municipality and various donors.

The fort was re-built by bringing bricks, wood and laborers from Bhaktapur.

From 1631 BS until the unification of Nepal, Beni was the winter capital of the then Parbat kingdom for 342 years.

The king of Parbat ruled the state from Beni in winter and Dholthan in summer.

The fort house has been rebuilt without losing its mythological significance, originality and history, said Ram Krishna Baraili, the outgoing ward chair of Beni Municipality-8.

Newly-elected chair of Beni Municipality-8 Uttam Kumar Karmacharya said that he would take initiative to make the Kotghar an attractive destination for tourists coming to Beni.

He said that it would also help in prolonging the stay of tourists visiting Myagdi and Mustang.
