Maoists have never said we should get Bharatpur, and Renu as its mayor: Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has dismissed reports that he and his party were insisting on fielding Renu Dahal as Bharatpur Metropolitan City’s mayor.

Prachanda has been criticized for putting the entire alliance at stake for the sake of his daughter, Renu.

“We have never said we want Bharatpur Metropolitan City and Renu Dahal,” Prachanda told a news conference in Parisdanda on Monday.

“We need one metropolis out of six,” he added.

Stating that there are two poles of republicanism and monarchism in Nepali politics, he said that the anti-constitutional forces will be defeated in the upcoming election.

The anti-constitutional exercise has been thwarted, we will defeat the current trend of violating the constitution, he said.

Prachanda also claimed that the upcoming election would also ensure the rights of the people in education, health and employment.

Mentioning that the republic, secularism and federalism were achieved through the strength of the decade-long Maoist “peoples’ war” and the people’s movement, he said that the country could not become dynamic while trying to stop it.
