CIAA files graft case against nine persons, including ex-acting chief of Kaski Transport Management Office



KATHMANDU: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a graft case against nine persons at the Special Court on Friday.

A case has been filed against nine persons, including the then acting chief of Kaski Transportation Management Office, Gokul Sharma Poudel, on the charge of bribery.

The graft-accused nine people, including Sharma Poudel, allegedly issued licenses to those who failed the driver’s license tests and those who did not attend various tests during the licensing process by receiving bribes.

The other accused in the case are Section Officer Hari Prasad Gautam, officers Bharatraj Kafle, Prem Prasad Shrestha, Dilliram Baral, Homnath Sharma, computer operator Jhalak Poudel, Mohan Mani Subedi and Bharat Mani Baral.

The CIAA, in the case, stated the above-mentioned persons colluded with then Kaski Transport Management Office acting chief Sharma Poudel to alter the results of applicants at different stages of licensing process such as written exam, trial, among others.

The charge sheet stated that Sharma, who was the acting head of theoffice from July to December, 2019, distributed the license by abusing his authority. CIAA claimed that it found evidence that they altered the test results of 168 candidates during the period.
