Saptari DAO starts issuing e-passport

SAPTARI: The District Administration Office (DAO), Sarlahi has started issuing e-passports.

The service was launched by providing electronic passports to three applicants, according to Chief District Officer (CDO) Thaneshwor Gautam.

The Office has received 156 e-passports produced by the Department of Passports, Kathmandu and is distributing accordingly.

One will be eligible to receive the passport within 15 days of the submission of the application.

The Department that had earlier in 2010 implemented the provision of Machine Readable Passport (MRP) to phase out the handwritten passports has lately switched to e-passport with improved security features to replace the MRP.

With the distribution of passports within the districts, services seekers are free from the compulsion of visiting the central capital for the service.
