Ruling coalition holding meeting even today

Will leaders strike deal on MCC?

KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition is holding a meeting even today to trash out differences on Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

A meeting of the ruling coalition held at Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar yesterday to forge consensus on MCC ended inconclusively.

The top leaders of the ruling alliance have agreed to meet again on Friday morning.

Government Spokesperson and Communications Minister Gyanendra Karki said the meeting “discussed extensively” various issues, particularly the MCC.

“We have decided to sit again on Friday at 9 am,” Minister Karki said.

However, sources said all the parties stuck to their guns and did not budge from their stance on MCC.

The Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is working to forward MCC in parliament whereas Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and CPN-Unified Socialist Chair Madhav Nepal are against Deuba’s initiative.

MCC is also likely to mar the relationship of coalition partners as the leaders were sharply divided over the issue.

Unified Socialist earlier on Thursday decided that it would vote against MCC in parliament if Deuba-led government tabled it without forging consensus on the issue.

However, Maoist Chair Prachanda said the coalition was his first priority.
