Valley’s waste disposal obstructed for last five days

KATHMANDU: Waste management of 18 local governments in the Kathmandu Valley has been stalled since February 13 due to local people’s obstruction.

The solid waste piled up in different parts of Kathmandu has not been picked after obstruction by local people for not timely completing maintenance of the road to Sisdole, Nuwakaot.

As a result, garbage has been heaped in different thoroughfares of Kathmandu.

Meanwhile, Kathmandu metropolis has demanded the Department of Roads to immediately complete maintenance works and urged locals to allow waste disposal smoothly.

Chief of KMC Department of Environment Sarita Rai said problem has emerged frequently in absence of a sustainable solution to waste disposal. Garbage management has seen a hiccup due to recurring protests by locals’ for no maintenance of road that was initiated some nine years back.
